The Groom's Wedding Planner

Twelve months is plenty of time to plan a wedding, right?
Nope - you need to set the ball rolling as early as possible if you want to get to the church on time. Our checklist of essential tasks will help you plan ahead.

12 months to go:

  1. 1

If you haven't asked her yet, now's the time.

To have made it into Moss Bros without getting the nod is, um, a bit premature to say the least.

  2. 2

    Decide who is paying.

Agree with your fiancée and both your parents how you'll divide up the bill.

  3. 3

    Fix a budget.

Once you have, you can decide how many guests you would like.

  4. 4

Agree on the style of wedding.

You can choose a civil or religious ceremony, which could take place at home or abroad.

11 months to go:

  1. 1

    Visit Moss Bros.

An early visit will give you an idea of the range of different styles available. We recommend you book your outfit sometime between now and three months before the big day.

  2. 2

    Set the date.

Then visit some venue options for your service and reception, taking into account the notoriously fickle British weather.

  3. 3

    Find a photographer.

The best wedding photographers/video companies get booked up quickly so make your choice as soon as possible.

  4. 4

    Organise the reception.

Hunt out the best caterers, DJs, bands and entertainment. Your venue will be able to make some recommendations.

10 months to go:

  1. 1

    Select your attendants.

Your best man and ushers have an important role to play. Choose friends you can rely on and decide how much or how little you want to involve them all.

  2. 2

    Research honeymoon locations.

Time to figure out where you want to spend your honeymoon. Check out our top 10 destinations here.

  3. 3

    Arrange the cars.

Make sure that transport for you, your families and attendants – to and from the wedding venue – is all arranged.

  4. 4

    Contact your guests.

You don't need to send out invitations yet, but a reminder to save the date is a good idea.
