A man of style and substance, friend of Moss, model and designer: Robbie Jr. Kwapong. For In Good Company, our latest campaign, we sat down with Robbie to get to know him better. He teaches us a thing or two about community and companionship.
Robbie, what does 'good company' mean to you?
People willing to advance peace and the good of mankind.
What qualities turn a friend into a best friend?
If they see you as family.
How would your friends describe you?
Intern, preacher, boss.
How do you make friends in your thirties?
Start by greeting people.
What is the best event that you got really dressed up for?
Every week. Church as well. Sundays.
What’s the best thing you said ‘yes’ to at the last minute?
My mum’s dinner. Fufu with light soup.
What was your first job and what did it teach you?
I was a paperboy in Eygelshoven, my hometown. It taught me patience, persistence, and endurance – physical and mental.
Tell us about your hometown.
I learned so many things there. All the things that I'm doing now, I envisioned for myself in my hometown. I’ve lived in Tokyo, London, New York, but Eygelshoven is still the best. There's so much identity there and so much heritage there, and those things have taught me a lot.
What’s a trait you wish you had?
I think you can develop any trait. If you are lacking something, you can work at it.
Have you ever changed your mind because of one conversation?
All the time. It’s a sign of growth.
And, finally, what do you want to teach the next generation?
We’re all made for something. So I wish for them to live their making, not just make a living.
