Mill focus: Solbiati
With over 140 years of fabric expertise, Solbiati has been a pioneer in fine linen since the 1960s.
Founded by Michele Solbiati in 1874, the company initially focused their efforts on heavyweight cloth such as velvet and brushed cotton. When the 1960s brought a decline in the textile industry, Solbiati and his family had to pivot in order to survive, experimenting with natural fibres such as flax to create linen. This became the company’s core output, with linen accounting for most of the production at its mill in Quarona, northern Italy.

One of Solbiati's defining features is its creative use of colour and texture. Inspired by the art world and cultural movements across history, the mill experiments with styles and blends to create signature textiles that are distinctly 'Solbiati'. Alongside pure linen, the mill is renowned for its summerweight fabric blends using natural fibres such as wool, cotton and hemp.
Sustainability is a huge part of Solbiati's mantra. Linen is often celebrated for its minimal environmental impact, requiring little to no irrigation, fertilisers, or chemical treatments and relying primarily on natural elements. All of Solbiati's linen products are recognised as European Linen, ensuring adherence to high environmental and quality standards.

Twill linen
Twill linen offers a refined alternative to plain-weave linen, combining added structure with improved wrinkle resistance, durability, and a superior drape, while maintaining its signature lightweight and breathable feel. Its distinctive weave creates a subtle texture, adding depth. This is a summer cloth designed for special occasions.
Wool-silk-linen blend
A wool, silk and linen blend that combines the breathability of linen and wool with the softness of silk. The classic linen slubbed finish adds character, while the wool enhances drape and structure.
100% cotton
Solbiati's 100% cotton cloth is lightweight with a smooth handfeel and lustre. This fabric exudes elegance – light and luxurious with a beautiful drape – making it an excellent choice for summer.
