Summer is great, but workwear can be tricky during the warmer months. With crisp mornings, sweaty commutes and dodgy aircon, how do you ensure you’re well prepared for the working week? Enter our fundamentals for the workplace, pieces that will get you through the summer and beyond. It’s all about looking put together, keeping cool and combatting the heat wave without feeling flustered.
Short sleeve shirts
Short sleeve shirts are a summer staple. Light and versatile, they can easily be styled down or up depending on the formality of your work place. Worn buttoned up to the top under a linen suit and you’ve got a corporate look worthy of any board room (tie optional). As for more relaxed settings, add chinos and a pair of loafers and you’re ready for a smart-casual office environment. Our takes are crafted from cotton, linen, or a combination of the two.
The great thing about these is they can be worn outside of the workplace, too. Combine with pleated or chino shorts for weekend plans in the sun.
Comfortable (but smart) trousers
When it comes to warmer weather, especially in the workplace, breathability is key. You don’t want to feel stuffy or uncomfortable during a heatwave. Wherever you work, a good pair of trousers will help you feel put together even if you’re feeling hot.
Our pleated take is crafted from organic cotton, with a mitred extended waistband and side adjusters for that extra sartorial touch. They're still smart enough for the office, but have a bit more room around the thigh for breathability. If you want something a bit more casual, chinos with a elasticated waistband are a bit more fitted but offer a bit more give.
Unlined jackets
If you need an extra layer of formality but don’t want to wear a suit, an unlined jacket will be your go-to. Much lighter than a half or full canvas blazer, these will level up your outfits all while keeping you cool.
Our tailored sage jacket is crafted from silk, cotton and linen hailing from Italian mill E. Thomas. This fabric combination makes it particularly lightweight, draping beautifully across the shoulders and torso without losing shape. Throw it over a shirt and tie or a short sleeve shirt, and add a pair of cotton chinos for a smart casual look - ideal for big meetings and slow-paced office days alike.
